NerdScholar是创立五年的个人理财网站NerdWallet旗下的高等教育部门，该网站总部设在旧金山，他们根据57所大学中184个学院的数据，发布了毕业薪资排名前50的院校（不包含哈佛耶鲁和布朗大学等不发布毕业生薪资信息的大学）。不过这个榜单肯定是主要针对美国人或者有绿卡的毕业生，所以对于留学生来说只能参考的来看，毕竟薪资高，说明学校该专业在相应的职场还是比较受欢迎的。
为汇总毕业生薪资排行榜，NerdScholar首先从《美国新闻与世界报道》(USNews & World Report)顶级大学排行榜的前100所全国性大学以及前30所文理学院入手，并与它从大学求职网站收集到的数据进行参照，这些网站对学生薪资水平进行调查。它追踪了2011、2012和2013届毕业生的起薪，算出每所院校的平均值。因为有很多学校，比如哈佛大学、耶鲁大学和布朗大学，都不发布毕业生薪资信息，因此这些学校都不在榜单上，所以这个榜单说不上全面。但是因为统计的数据都是大学收集的，对于毕业生还是很有参考价值的。
数据显示，毕业生的专业和学校的关系很大。比如通常认为美术专业会在求职市场上遇冷，但卡内基梅隆大学美术学院的毕业生平均起薪62,100美元，在榜单上排名第24位。
由于学校收集的是全体学生的数据，它们可以说比薪资调查网站PayScale数据库中那些自行上报的薪资数据更为可靠。人们向PayScale提供自己的薪资数据，以换取该网站收集的详细薪资数据，通常是因为他们想要换一份新工作或获得加薪。对于那些对目前工作的薪酬不满意的人来说，这些数据都是由他们自己填写的。NerdScholar的数据则来自新近毕业的全体学生。
排名前50的学校中，毕业时找到了工作的那些学生均获得了不错的待遇，他们每年最少能挣到56,000美元。
